Manchester United’s talisman Bruno Fernandes has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for December – collecting the accolade for the fourth time in 2020.
In the space of less than a year with the club, the Portuguese playmaker has also equalled the four times Cristiano Ronaldo won the award when he was at Old Trafford.
He becomes the first player to win the award four times in the same calendar year.
Fernandes scored three goals and contributed three assists in United’s Premier League matches during the month of December, helping them climb to their current position at the top of the table.
Overall, he has 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions during what is turning out to be a highly productive campaign for the played signed from Sporting Lisbon in January last year.
Fernandes had previously scooped the player of the month award in February, June and November. He becomes the first player to win it in back-to-back months since Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in March 2018.
It’s certainly possible that Fernandes will soon be challenging Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who holds the record for the most player of the month prizes with seven.
He is now level with the four won by Paul Scholes during his time playing for United and is just once behind former United strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Of other active players, Tottenham’s Harry Kane has the most with six.
United, who moved top of the Premier League thanks to Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Burnley, face a showdown with Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday.
