With Manchester United gifted a glorious chance by Liverpool to go top of the league, David De Gea believes that this could be the opportunity they have been waiting for.
As a result of that, De Gea has given a rallying cry to Man United to try their best not to let this chance slip when they face-off with Burnley.
With Liverpool and United on par at the top of the table, a win or draw would see them go top.
The United’s No 1 believes this is an opportunity that his side simply has to take.
Here’s what De Gea had to say when he was asked about United’s Title chances:
‘I have been fighting for the title in a couple of seasons when Sir Alex was here,’ De Gea, who won the Premier League in 2013, said. ‘Now we are there again and it’s taken us a lot of time to get there, to be honest and we cannot miss this chance.
‘We have to be very, very focused on every game and try to win all of them. Hopefully, if we are good physically and mentally then we can be there and we can fight for sure for the Premier League.
‘There is indeed a lot to play yet, but of course, it’s a chance to be there, to be top of the league.’
When asked about the Burnley game, De Gea believes United will need a lot of grit to come out on top. This may be because Sean Dyche’s side has recovered from a poor start (presently 16th) and have quite a history with United.
Here’s his statement:
‘It’s a good challenge for us. We will play against a difficult team in Burnley, away from home, but if we want to win the league then we have to win these types of matches,’ De Gea added.
‘I’m saying the same thing, but all we can do is focus on each match, take it game-by-game and be 100 percent focused.’
For the trip to Turf Moor on Tuesday, (8:15 pm), United will be boosted by the return of Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof.
After Burnley, United then head to Anfield to meet Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday. One would feel that they need to take maximum points before their next match which is a showdown.
Their next game would see them go head to head with PL Champions Liverpool. Their away form may very well be useful against a Liverpool side the has smashed all the Supposed Big teams at Anfield.
United will surely be looking to maintain their unbeaten run of 10 games in the Premier League.
