Eden Hazard celebrated his 30th birthday on Thursday, January 7, and there is no doubt that he will want to mark it by turning around his situation at Real Madrid.
The Belgian winger has been plagued by injuries in his year and a half in the Spanish capital, having played just 30 games in that time. He has scored three goals and provided four assists.
These are extremely disappointing numbers for a player of Hazard’s quality, but it is worth noting that he has faced problem after problem since Thomas Meunier went in on his ankle during Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Los Blancos at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in November 2019.
That ankle injury saw him miss practically the remainder of the 2019/20 season, while this campaign has seen Hazard have to deal with more injuries, as well as COVID-19. He is training with Zinedine Zidane’s squad again after recovering from a muscle injury, but the club are being very careful with him.
Hazard marked his birthday by training with his teammates at Valdebebas, no doubt hoping that he can make an impact when Real Madrid travel to take on Osasuna this weekend. Zidane still has high hopes for the Belgian, who has thus far been unable to display his talent in the club’s famous white shirt.
Now 30 years old, Hazard will be hoping that this is the year that he can turn things around and repay Real Madrid’s faith in him.
