Despite the Injury crises, Liverpool are unlikely to add to their squad in a bit to keep their finances in check.
Despite a lack of fit center-backs being a top priority concern, Jurgen Klopp understands the owners’ stance.
Jurgen Klopp says he has no problem with Liverpool not dipping into the transfer market in January as owners Fenway Sports Group can only act in the best interests of the club financially.
The Reds boss understands it is difficult to do business at this time even without the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
He insists that he is on the same page as club ownership, despite the possibility that key absences could undermine their push for trophies this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s Statement
“In good times everyone thinks our owners are generous – ‘My God, big signings, whatever’ – and in bad times everyone thinks they are tight. Maybe because they are from a different country – but they are not. They are concerned about the club and success of the club,” Klopp said.
“And that is an understanding of how we have it. They see the same things I see about the necessity of players and staff. It’s not that I say ‘By the way, a center-half would be nice’ and they say, ‘Wow, a center-half. Really? Why?’
“It is all clear, all on the table, we work on that. It’s the situation and on top of that, we have January, not the easiest transfer window, having not the money exactly as we want.
“It is a window where other clubs say, ‘No, we have enough [money] to survive’ so we don’t do anything on our targets.
“It has nothing to do with worrying [about whether it will impact their chances of winning trophies] or not. These are the facts.
“My job is to deal with the circumstances which I always do. If the world would be in a completely normal place, we would try everything to do the right stuff now but the world is not in a normal place so I don’t know why we constantly try to treat football like it is independent of other issues around.”
Worrying Times For Liverpool!
The Premier League champions have a squad that has been badly depleted this season due to injuries.
Particularly, all first-choice center Backs Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip are all presently sidelined.
This means all three first-team center Backs might miss a large chunk of games this season.
This series of injuries seem to have affected their form as they have recently struggled defensively.
Their away form has taken the most hit. The reds are winless in 6 away matches this season.
They have only won twice(Crystal Palace and Chelsea), drawing five times and losing twice. These away fixtures have majorly been among the lowest placed teams on the table.
Key to their position in the League table is their home form. It has seen them claim 22 points out of a possible 24. That form is also being questioned recently.
This is following a 3-game winless run that has seen them pick just 2 points from an available 9. They also have only managed a solitary goal and just 8 shots on target in their last 3 EPL games!
