Ole Gunner Solskjaer offered an update on Manchester United’s injuries during his press conference ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

During the briefing, which was streamed live on the club’s official app at 10am, Solskjaer was asked about the state of his squad.

Lindelof has been sidelined since being forced off in the second half of the 2-2 draw at Leicester on Boxing Day.

He has been managing a back injury throughout the season and it perhaps seemed that had worsened at the King Power Stadium.

“We’re disappointed not having Edinson (Cavani) involved, he’s probably the only one,” said Solskjaer when asked for an injury report.

“(Along with) Phil Jones who’s been very out for a long time, they’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good situation to be in.”

Eric Bailly’s form at centre half in Lindelof’s absence has maintained United’s momentum.

That gives Solskjaer a crucial decision to make about who will partner Harry Maguire at the heart of defence in tomorrow night’s match.

Bailly is the man in possession of the shirt and his performances have given Solskjaer no reason to drop him.

He has had his fitness issues in the past and the only potential consideration for Solskjaer is managing his load to keep him fit.

Hopefully the spell out of the side has allowed Lindelof to fully recover from the injury problem which has dogged him all season long.

It’s a big call facing Solskjaer and it’s important he gets it right.

One thing’s for sure, the central defensive landscape looks stronger than it did for the semi-final first leg against City last year.

Maguire missed that tie through injury, meaning Jones had to play as United were beaten 3-1 at Old Trafford.
